"Starting out as an esthetician, a salon owner, and a mom, my kids spent a lot of time with me at the salon. I understand the struggles of juggling daycare, work, and life. When our company began to grow, my big goal was to open an onsite child care center. Creating a daycare allows parents to work, stay close to their babies, and save time, energy, and money. I know this has made a difference in retaining talented employees and moving our organization forward in a positive way. It’s so wonderful to have the kids on the property with us—one big family."

Family Friendly Policy Overview

Through benefits like flexible schedules and education, PLA Beauty’s commitment to employee growth and a family-first mindset has strengthened the company, resulting in reduced stress, less absenteeism, and better retention of top talent. Employees also receive paid maternity and paternity leave, medical insurance, accrued PTO, and life insurance.

The vision for a family-first culture began seven years ago when Michelle Nguyen, who grew up on a coffee farm in Vietnam, founded PLA Beauty in her parents’ garage. After moving to the U.S., earning her degree, and becoming an aesthetician, she launched the company to empower women with economic opportunities in a safe environment. PLA Beauty’s products are made in Vietnam in worker-friendly environments Nguyen established to improve conditions for over 700 women , who would otherwise be working in harsh farming environments.

After years of careful planning, PLA Beauty launched an onsite child care center, offering employees affordable access at just $20 per day. The facility is now utilized by every staff member with children aged 0-5, either full-time or part-time, representing 22% of the company’s workforce. Since introducing onsite child care, employees have found their lives significantly easier. It has become a convenient, one-stop-shop solution for working parents. They can visit their children anytime, even taking them for a walk during breaks. If their child is unwell, they can quickly check in for peace of mind. This valuable benefit has also given employees, who don’t have children, the confidence to plan for a family, knowing they are supported and won’t have to face the challenge of finding affordable child care.

Additionally, PLA Beauty places great emphasis on education as a family-friendly benefit, supporting its predominantly women-led workforce. Through master classes and training sessions, the company provides employees with the tools they need to grow their careers while balancing personal responsibilities. This investment in education helps team members succeed professionally, care for clients, and make a lasting positive impact.

A large part of PLA Beauty’s success lies in its commitment to prioritizing what matters most to employees. The result? Happy employees who stick around and stay motivated.

This initiative also provides a safe, nurturing environment for children, helping them thrive while their parents focus on work.

Overall, family-friendly benefits have enhanced PLA Beauty’s ability to attract and retain top talent while improving employee morale and work-life balance. It all goes back to developing a sense of community– that everyone is in it together.  PLA Beauty is planning to expand its employee benefits in the near future by introducing options like summer and holiday child care. These initiatives reflect the company’s dedication to supporting a family-centered culture where both employees and their families can flourish together because, to PLA Beauty, the time and effort poured into making these benefits available are worth it.

Employee Feedback

“As a working mom, having access to our in-house daycare has been a true blessing. Dropping off my 4-year-old just steps away from where I work brings me so much peace of mind. It allows me to fully focus on my job while knowing she’s safe, close, and cared for by people we trust. PLA’s family-first approach has made all the difference for my family, and I’m genuinely so grateful.”
